The parish's support for the unemployed started in 1996 with the founding of the St. Joseph Society.
In 2002 we joined the collective efforts of CEN and in 2008 adopted the identity of "The SGM Chapter of CEN."
We started holding meetings twice each month in August 2006 offering
spiritual support and job search skills. Other assistance on an individual basis includes
help with resumes, one-on-one job search coaching, and more.
Meetings and other services are open to all members of the community,
parishioners or not, Catholic or not. And there is never any cost.
We focus on what can and should be done and not dwell in the past. We help you to see the
silver lining of what many see only as a storm cloud. There is no mileage in negativity. We are
realists and understand that you are dealing with a difficult situation but we try to help you
find ways to deal with it in a positive way. When you come to one of our meetings, you won't
go away depressed from being around negativity but will go away with a better attitude and
some positive, useful ideas to put into practice for a quicker and more successful search.
Our meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 7:30 to 9 PM. Check the CEN Calendar (on the links above) since dates are sometimes adjusted due to Holy Days, holidays, or other conflicts. Need directions?
We are available to help you with your resume and to discuss specific problems and opportunities either by phone or email. We can arrange weekly coaching with a volunteer if you are willing to commit to making a weekly plan and reporting on results the next week.
